Ambassador Baltimore Visits the Maritime Archaeological Project in Qalhat

Sarah Jackson, the Embassy's special programs coordinator, and Ambassador Baltimore look on as Tom Vosmer, director of the maritime archaeological project in Qalhat, describes a recently discovered archeological site. The dig revealed a Turkish-style bath or "hammam" dating back to the 13th-15th a.d. centuries.

This hammam is the only structure of its kind found in Oman.

A stone well that was also found adjacent to the "hammam."


Ambassador Baltimore and Tom Vosmer ambling through the rocky location, finding many pieces of Chinese celadon and ancient Arabian pottery.
